Privacy Policy

Effective Date and Last Updated: July 28, 2026

1. Introduction

TopCycle (P.IVA 03786490122), based in Italy ("we," "us," or "our"), operates the Scanza mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use Scanza, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

Scanza does not require you to create an account. Most information you enter in the App is stored locally on your device.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

Scanza stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Allergens, dietary requirements, and intolerances.
  • Local family profiles.
  • Food and environmental preferences.
  • Scan history and favorite products.
  • App settings and preferences.

This information remains on your device and is not uploaded to TopCycle servers. You can delete it from the App's Settings or by uninstalling Scanza.

3. Camera, Photos, and Notifications

Camera

Camera access is used only to read product barcodes. Scanza does not analyze, record, or upload the camera video stream.

Photos

Photo Library access is used only when you choose to save a product card to your library. Scanza does not access other photos.

Notifications

Notifications may be used to remind you that a Scanza Pro trial is about to expire.

These permissions are optional and can be managed at any time in your device's iOS Settings.

4. Open Food Facts

Scanza uses Open Food Facts to retrieve publicly available product information. Depending on the feature you use, the App may send the following information to Open Food Facts:

  • The scanned or manually entered barcode.
  • The selected language and country.
  • The product category when searching for alternatives.

Product images are loaded from Open Food Facts services. As with any web service, Open Food Facts may receive technical information such as your IP address and User-Agent. For details, review the Open Food Facts Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

5. Apple Payments and RevenueCat

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. RevenueCat helps Scanza verify your Scanza Pro entitlement and subscription status.

RevenueCat may process an anonymous app user identifier, the purchased product, subscription status, and purchase history. Scanza does not receive your payment card number or Apple Account credentials.

For more information, review the Apple Privacy Policy and RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

6. How We Use Information

Information processed through Scanza is used to:

  • Scan barcodes and retrieve product information.
  • Compare available product data with your locally stored profiles and preferences.
  • Display product alternatives and maintain local history.
  • Verify Scanza Pro purchases and subscription status.
  • Respond to support requests you send to us.

7. Data Sharing and Advertising

We do not sell your personal information and do not use your data for behavioral advertising. Information is shared only as needed with Open Food Facts, Apple, and RevenueCat for the purposes described in this Policy, or when required by law.

8. Support Requests and Retention

If you contact us for support, we receive the information you choose to include in your message, such as your email address and the details of your request. Please do not include allergy or health information unless it is necessary to resolve your request.

Support communications are retained only for as long as necessary to respond and maintain an appropriate record of the request, normally no longer than 24 months, unless a longer period is required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

9. International Data Transfers

Apple, RevenueCat, and Open Food Facts may process information in countries outside your country of residence. Where required, these providers use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers. Their own privacy policies provide further information about their processing locations and safeguards.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of personal information you have provided through a support request. To exercise these rights, contact us at info@topcycle.it.

Data stored locally in Scanza can be managed or deleted directly from the App's Settings or by uninstalling the App. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority.

11. Children's Privacy

Scanza is not directed to children under the age required to consent to data processing in their country. The App does not require an account, and TopCycle does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through a support request, please contact us so we can delete it.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed in connection with Scanza. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to Scanza, applicable law, or our service providers. Material changes will be communicated within the App or through another appropriate channel, and the date at the top of this page will be updated.
